Get busy living

Life, like a dome of many-colored glass,
Stains the white radiance of eternity.

Sleep:  Death without dying - living, but not life.
Edwin Arnold

Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
Choruses from 'The Rock'   George Eliot

My soul, do not seek immortal life,
but exhaust the realm of the possible.
Pindar

I think Springtime is a much better time of year for resolutions.
The earth is waking up, the trees are blossoming,
there is promise in the air all around us
as the sleepiness and silence of winter falls away
and is replaced by birdsong and new life.
I feel more inspired in these first weeks of spring,
and more confident that whatever resolutions I set for myself can be met
than I ever do in mid-winter!

  1. Dear Haworth,

This is a most beautiful enspiring post.
How i can relate to what you have written.
I do so much believe that we are reborn again every spring. With every bloom that opens and every little bird that sings and brings us joy.
We can with love, remember those that have passed on..
Today and tomorrow we are here to enjoy this joyous season.
    best wishes
    happy thursday

  2. Thank you, Val! Each spring does feel like a new beginning, not only for the earth but for us as well. Enjoy this week!

  3. I completely agree about feeling more resolve in spring. I never set resolutions at the new year or in general. Just when the time feels right for something specific. Lots to ponder here. I thought the G. Elliot was my favorite. Then I read the Pindar... "exhaust the realm of the possible." So profound. We could down a tank of tea on your little porch over this one!

  4. We certainly could, Jacqueline! All but the last of those photos were taken in the various "Cities of the Dead" in New Orleans. The last was taken inside the Cathedral there. It may seem morbid to some but they are lovely places to wander and ponder things.
